i handed in the proposal today and theres nothing more to do with this subject! yay!
so i guess i wont be blogging again either ? haha. anyways, good luck with the system now! thats the biggest trouble we're all having for now eh!

week 11

this week we didnt do much on the subject because everyones going smoothly with the proposal.. ive already written quite a bit of it and should be done anytime soon. i showed my work to ms sara and she checked it for plagiarism etc and made few suggestions and changes.

we spent most of the lessons doing Writing for the Web instead since there is nothing more to really teach on this subject.
i just completed writing the risk analysis for the proposal and i put it into a table format.. i wonder if its going to be alright. i doubled checked with ms sara and she said it shouldnt be a problem.
just dont wanna get pulled off for anything silly! ;)

week 10

this week went rather slow, since this blog is for the proposal side only i would just talk more on the proposal side alone! :) the progress with the system side would be on my final year project blog.

anyways, atleast im more clear about what needs to be done and i changed my proposal according to the new changes that have been made. ive written more than half of the proposal and i need to be careful about the wordcount since we are not allowed to exceed 3000 words. in order to make things more precise and clear, i used table format in some of the topics in the proposal.. i asked ms.sara whether it would be alright and she said its alright.

VU visit ... week 09 !

we had VU visits again this week and this time mr.luke was down to help us more on the technical aspect of the project. most of us were pretty lost about what needs to be done about the system and we had the basics to show him on the first day. i had already done the storyboard and the basic designs on the system side and i showed it to him.
this week was by far the best week because we actually had alot of guidance on our project!!! mr.luke was helpful and most of us took the advantage to ask him all the things we needed to clear out. afterall, after this week we're not too sure who's gonna be guiding us in case we need any help.

anyways, previously i was told that if i say that something is done for a touch screen, i would have to demo on one too. but good news is that mr.luke said that i could still go ahead and create my prototype for a touch screen however i could demo it using a pc.
he also mentioned certain important facts that i needed to consider such as having large buttons since its a touch screen. there are certain design rules that have to be applied since its for a touch screen. i had to change the design a bit but luckily since i havent gone too far with it, it shouldnt be a problem.
time to get going on the project..atleast now we are more clear and since he would be marking the project too, we know which advice we should be sticking with because previously we were all rather confused because we had 4 different opinions from 4 different lecturers who were involved with our system side and the proposal too! argh..

after the break - week 8

all the classes was cancelled this week. nothing was done and im not too sure why? (maybe because the lecturer was sick, im not too sure). on all the day we were informed last minute that the classes have been cancelled. for both dvd and script writing and also for the final year project subject.

worked on the overall layout and trying to decide how to fit in the content. i need to think about the game that i would be including into my package too. needs to be interactive yet should be simple since i would be creating a prototype for a touch screen.

lots of things to think about. pity that classes were cancelled because we werent abe to show our progress or get any feedback.

mr luke would be down next week and we need to get alot of work done by then so that he would be the best person to give us some feedback and help up with any technical problems. im all geared up for a tough week next week! :)

mid term break

its the mid term break and i had planned to do alot of work but unfornately im really sick. ive been given a medical leave for 10 days too! was down with fever etc. anyways, the best i could do for this week was to work on the assingment for other subjects and also relating to the final year project i just gathered up some information. i hope im not lagging too much with the work. need to catch up soooon!

week 7, VU visit

this week was supposed to be the second week of VU visit but since the last week was cancelled its going to be our first VU visit. ms megan is down as planned and she was taking over both the subjects (writing for web and this subject too). so sometimes, its a bit confusing when the same lecturer is there for two subjects.

she looked through our proposals and as for me, i wrote up more because i felt it was best to show her more of my work and do a little extra since she could check it and give a feedback. i wrote roughly half of the proposal and showed it to her, she made alot of changes and made me think about the whole project further. there were some issues that were not too clear such as the deliverables and also the target audience.

after talking with her about it, i was more confused and stressed out but just as she suggested i took a day to re-think everything and started to make changes on the proposal.

we had a class discussion (which is something i really like) but unfortunately we dont do it often during our classes usually. this was the best way to get other people's opinions and also suggestions and this would improve our work. i got alot of feedback and from the suggestions that my classmates made during the discussion, i got more ideas which was a really awesome thing.

as for the assignment, the DVD was due this week. and we were asked to hand it in directly to ms megan before she leaves. i had already finished up the DVD two weeks ago! :) because i was doing it on a friends laptop (using a mac) since i couldnt install adobe encore on my pc. i did it much earlier because my friend was free then and i figured it was best to finish that up and focus more on the final year project.

although i had finished it up, i had trouble burning the DVD because her laptop doesnt have a DVD burner!!!! it made me panick but finally she found a friend who happened to have a DVD burner so we installed the software on that and burnt the DVD. it was done on time and i was so relaxed and free because i didnt have to panick about it last minute.

most of my friends who were using adobe encore faced alot of problems burning and completing the final product. i heard it was some bug that they resolved later on. i was just glad i used DVD studio pro instead of trying to work with adobe encore because to me, DVD studio pro was much easier to handle.

after handing in the assignment to ms megan and also after completing all the classes, she made appointments with us to meet everyone individually. it was really useful because i was able to ask her so many questions that i had doubts about and clear out my project further.

overall this week alot of work was done and it was done efficiently i would say! :)

week 06

this week was supposed to be the VU visit and mr luke was supposed to be down but it was cancelled due to some unavoidable circumstances. we worked on the proposals and i really had alot of catching up to do since i got my title approved pretty late. after putting in alot more work i managed to catch up with the same level that the rest of the class was doing.

we had to do the weekly activities and it was a set of questions that we had to answer after reading through a website. i did that during the class hour itself because i didnt want to leave it for later. trying to manage my time well so that i dont get stuck in between.

i started working on the story board too.. should be shown to miss jaya sometime next week if im not wrong. theres just so much to do, so little time! hopefully everything would fall in place eventually. its the last semester afterall ! =)

i managed to finish up the story board and i showed it to ms jaya. she gave some suggestions and i made some changes instantly. but i have to redraw some of the stuff before ms megan comes down next week!

goooooddd newsss!

My proposal has finally been accepted!!!

YAYYYY! Both the Dhivehi proposal and also the AEDES one was given a green light. Actually, all of us who resubmitted the proposals last week had received the reply from Ms.Megan last Thursday. However, one of my friends told me on Saturday that he received his reply and since I still hadn’t I mailed my lecturer and she told me that she sent mind too the previous Thursday. Hmm. But I hadn’t received it!

Anyways, that was good news to start the week with. We have to show drafts of the proposal in class this week so that she could guide us if we need any help.

I think I should be able to catch up with the rest of the class afterall.

04th WEEK!

This fourth week has been really stressful. Firstly, I still haven’t received a feedback from VU but I’m hoping the reply would come soon. The rest of the class haven’t proceeded far with the project and the proposal so I should be able to catch up hopefully.

This week we had two classes cancelled for this subject and so we were all a bit confused as to what was happening. The second class was cancelled suddenly! I took this time to work on the workshops for the 3rd week and the 4th week. I wasn’t able to do the 3rd week workshop because there was some confusion about it and it was just cleared out in the 4th week.

About the first assignment, which is to create a DVD, we were trying to get the software and get familiar with it. The software that I chose to work with is Adobe Encore. Most of my classmates are working with this software and since I have never used it before, I need to play around with it before actually getting started on the assignment itself.

We were told to use the video that we created for the video production class. Since we did that assignment in a pair, I asked the lecturer whether it would be ok if two people did the DVD using the same video and she said that if we wanted other videos, that Luke had provided us some links. Our lecturer assigned the videos to us and the video I got was just 1 minute long!!! So I don’t think I want to create my DVD with that video since it would be very short. Finally, I’ve decided to stick with my own video production file although the DVD features would be different from my partners.

Hoping to get a reply from VU sooooooooon… It’s taking so long!

thirrrrrrrrrd week!

This week was a bit upsetting for me because we got our replies from VU regarding out final year project and mine was still not a green light! :( There were a lot of questions that I had to answer. I guess it’s because I’m doing it about my language and my proposal wasn't clear to others. I got advice from both lecturers related to this subject and both of them said to make my proposal clearer and point out the main elements that would be in the final project.

We got the replies on Wednesday and I resubmitted that proposal along with a back up proposal today (Friday). The back up idea that I submitted was Aedes Awareness. It would be a proposed system for a KIOSK that would be placed at hospitals. It would create awareness about two of the main diseases that are spread by the aedes mosquito - dengue and chikungunya.

I hope to get a reply from VU early next week because I don’t want to be left behind too much while the rest of the class is progressing with the project. I am determined to catch up this one week that I have lost and hopefully everything would settle in well.

We also did the week three readings and I mailed it to our lecturer. We had to read about the www.scriptwritingsecrets.com and answer some of the questions that were given to us. It was interesting to read through it and learn more about film related terms etc! :)

That’s it for now, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a more positive week next week! :)

the confused 2nd week~

for the second week again we didn’t have much to do either .. I'm working on the tutorials for this week currently and I think everyone in class is pretty much confused at this point. we resubmitted out proposals for the final year project last Thursday (2nd April) and waiting for a reply. hoping the reply would come soon so that we can start on the project.

right now most of us are quite tensed because the proposed titles haven't been confirmed for all of us except just one person in our class!! :)

I was confused as to whether we should be writing blogs for both the subjects, DVD and also writing for web.. but finally managed to clear it out and the blog is only for this subject. what makes everything so confusing is that we have the same lecturer for both these subjects andddd to add onto the confusion our final year project is split into two subjects too! (there again two diff lecturers). I’m sure I would get used to all this soon! :)

hoping to get a reply by early next week so that we could start working on the project soooonnn...

the beginning.. week one!

Week one just passed by and as usual the first week is mainly about briefing about the subject and settling back into work-mode after the holidays! Our lecturer told us what the assignments would probably be like for this subject and also we had to make necessary changes with our Final year project title.

The title that I chose for my final year project was “The language of Paradise – Dhivehi”. This would be a courseware that would teach anyone interested to learn to read and write Dhivehi. As most of you would probably know I’m from Maldives and Dhivehi is my local language.

Anyways, moving on to other matters related to this subject – we also have weekly tutorials for this subject and for week one we had to read through and article given to us about multimedia and answer the questions gives in detail. We had to hand this over to our lecturer at the beginning of the next week! I’ve already handed it in to Ms.Sara! The questions were a bit long but I managed to do them because I like reading through new topics!

I would be doing 4 tough subjects this semester and the holiday mode has cleared gone away with the thought of focusing on final year project and 3 other hectic subjects! Oh nooo.. but it’s all good because it’s final year, final semester! YAY.
